This has got to be one of the toughest commandments: Honour your father and your mother.

Family is something that God’s really into. He sent Jesus to die on the cross to make you part of His family. Just like God deserves our respect, so do our parents.

This can be really difficult, especially when you may have had bad experiences of your parents. Violence, lies, cruel words or even rejection can sometimes make it difficult for us to respond with love and respect.

But it’s still how God wants us to live. If you can show love and honour your parents (even when it’s tough) then you’re showing the same love that God shows us (even when we don’t deserve it).

Ask God to help you honour your father and mother. If you do – you’re honouring God and showing them His love.

Maybe His love will change them too!
